In Sokal, construction has begun on a solar power plant with a total capacity of 100 kW at the facilities of the municipal utility enterprise “Sokalvodokanal”. The project is being implemented through cooperation between the Sokal City Council, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ Ukraine) GmbH and the Government of Germany.
To improve the reliability of the enterprise's operations, the Sokal community has received from the Government of Germany a set of battery storage units with hybrid inverters worth more than 16,000 euros. The equipment will be installed together with the new solar power plant.
Once the construction and installation of the energy storage units is complete, the critically important Sokalvodokanal facility will be able to operate more stably in the event of possible blackouts and will reduce its electricity procurement costs.
The measures are being carried out as part of the Winter Aid package provided by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) under transitional assistance, and implemented by GIZ Ukraine.
