14-year-old Nestor received a new kidney after 5 years of dialysis

14-year-old Nestor from the Odesa region got a chance for a new life after a successful kidney transplantation.

The operation was performed at the Children’s Medical Center, allowing the boy to live without dialysis machines. The donor was a 52-year-old woman from Lviv who passed away from a stroke. Nestor did not have the opportunity to receive pediatric hemodialysis in his native Odesa region, so he was treated in various medical institutions in Ukraine and Israel. In October 2024, the family returned to Ukraine and approached the Center.

The transplant surgeons called at 6 a.m., informing them about the possibility of surgery. \”We were very excited, and although we were worried about the outcome, we had some confidence that everything would be fine\”, said Nestor. The operation was successful, and the kidney started functioning immediately on the operating table.

The head of the Clinic, Roman Andrunevych, assures that \”the function of the transplanted organ is currently at a good level\”. Nestor is the son of a fallen Ukrainian defender, and his father dreamed of his son’s future. We thank the donor’s family for their decision and are proud of our doctors.
