Lviv Surgeons Share Experience at Congress in Sweden

Specialists from the Lviv Regional Oncology Centre participated in the 8th Congress of the European Confederation of Head and Neck Surgery held in Sweden. This major medical event gathered over 3,700 participants and 800 speakers from around the world. The section dedicated to head and neck tumours was one of the largest this year.

Discussions included the latest methods in diagnosing and treating oncological diseases, specifically the assessment of recurrence risk through saliva and microbiome analysis, precision surgery with intraoperative navigation, as well as reconstructive and ‘salvage’ operations in complex clinical cases.

“Important reports and personal experiences were also presented by our oncology centre’s specialists — the head of the head and neck tumours department, oncologist Oleg Halay, and oncologist Roman Slipetskyi,” the oncology centre noted.

Additionally, the Ukrainian delegation achieved significant success on the international stage — representatives from Russia and Belarus were not permitted to participate in the congress, while Ukraine was represented by 37 delegates.

Due to the high professional standard of Ukrainian medics, Ukraine has been invited to co-organise the next congress in 2027 in Berlin, where there will be a separate section for Ukrainian speakers.
