A new paediatric wing with an underground shelter opens in Brody

A new paediatric wing has opened in Brody, built on the site of the old hospital building, which was more than 80 years old. This was reported by the Lviv Regional State Administration.

The new medical facility covers an area of around 1,300 m² and was constructed using modular technology, which made it possible to significantly shorten the construction timeframe. The wing meets World Health Organization standards.

The building is equipped with a modern underground shelter of almost 280 m², intended for children and medical staff. The facility has received new equipment, including a digital X-ray machine and laboratory analysers.

Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration Khrystyna Zamula stressed that the opening of the wing was made possible thanks to cooperation between international partners, local authorities and the medical community, and makes it possible to provide children with safe conditions, modern equipment and an appropriate standard of medical services.

«The opening of the new paediatric wing is an example of how, thanks to cooperation between international partners, local authorities and the medical community, it is possible to create modern spaces for high-quality treatment of children even in wartime. Importantly, this project is not only about a new building, but about safe conditions, modern equipment and a decent standard of medical services,» said Khrystyna Zamula.

The “Horizon” project, worth around 8 million US dollars, was implemented in a public-private partnership format. It brought together Brody City Council, the local hospital and the international organisation Sunflower Network, with the support of foreign partners.

At the second stage, there are plans to expand the hospital into a fully fledged medical complex that will be able to serve more than 120,000 residents of the region.
