An event of immense importance took place in Drohobych. The Drohobych City Hospital No. 1 carried out the first-ever procedure of procuring a donor heart that went on to save another life. This became possible due to the brave decision of the family of a 46-year-old resident from Dnipro, who was admitted to the hospital following a stroke. Despite the efforts of the medical team, his life could not be saved, and the doctors confirmed brain death.
In a difficult moment, his wife consented to organ donation, granting another person a chance at life. The organ removal procedure was performed by local medical staff together with specialists from the First Medical Association of Lviv. The heart was swiftly transported to Lviv, where it was successfully transplanted into a 50-year-old resident of the Lviv region.
The medical community and the local government expressed deep gratitude to the donor’s family for their noble act, which became an example of humanity and offered hope to others.
