Knopka project launched in Lviv hospitals: how patient care will change

Today, the knopka project was launched at St. Panteleimon Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv. The special application facilitates communication between doctors and, instead of calling each doctor individually, allows you to call several specialists at the touch of a button.

This solution will be implemented for the emergency departments of 4 medical institutions of the First Territorial Medical Association of Lviv: St. Panteleimon, St. Nicholas, St. Luke and St. Anna hospitals. Lviv IT Cluster purchased and delivered the necessary equipment to the First Territorial Medical Association of Lviv.

“Hospitals are obliged to provide assistance to patients in critical conditions within 5 minutes. From the first day of our system’s operation, hospitals have statistically proven that patients receive help in less than 5 minutes. The knopka system notifies the doctors on duty of a call to the emergency department: it can be either individual doctors or groups of doctors, in cases of polytrauma, when a team of 5-6 doctors needs to be assembled instantly.

By pressing a single button, several people are notified of the call at once. Our system also makes sure that these people arrive at the emergency room on time. It’s a fairly simple system, but effective at the same time,” says Ivan Osadchyi, CEO of the knopka project.

Lviv’s first medical unit provides emergency medical care to patients. On weekdays, up to 600 patients a day can visit the emergency room. About 150 patients a day require hospitalization in case of emergency. To ease the burden on the hospital’s medical system and optimize the time of medical care, the knopka system is being implemented.

“Before, we used to call each doctor separately, we had to call everyone and ask if they could come. It took a lot of time to organize comprehensive care. Now we can call, for example, for help with a stroke diagnosis at the touch of a button: an anesthesiologist, a neurologist, and a neurosurgeon are already included in the list of doctors who come on call.

The most important idea is that until the doctor arrives at the emergency room, his or her phone is constantly beeping. And if the specialist is busy, he or she must quickly organize a replacement to arrive on time and provide assistance,” said Natalia Matolinets, head of the emergency department at St. Panteleimon of Lviv’s First TMC.

Within a week, the system will be implemented in 4 hospitals in Lviv. For this purpose, Lviv IT Cluster has provided 63 phones and 12 tablets to the medical center.

“Our cooperation with the First Territorial Medical Association is quite extensive. We have a mental health center built within UNBROKEN for both adults and children later. And now, together with a company that is a member of our IT cluster community, we have provided all the hospitals belonging to the First Medical District with the necessary equipment for the successful implementation of the emergency call system. This includes more than 60 phones and tablets. The total cost of this assistance is just over UAH 600 thousand. We have a good tradition of supporting good innovative things together with our partners from the First Medical and Technical Institute and will continue to do so,” said Stepan Veselovsky, Executive Director of Lviv IT Cluster.

Oleh Samchuk, CEO of the First Territorial Medical Association of Lviv, thanked the IT Cluster for its ongoing support. In particular, with their help, two mental health centers were set up in the city’s hospitals: one for adults in the clinic on Mazepa Street, which accepts both civilians and military personnel, and a children’s mental health center in St. Nicholas Hospital. Mykolayiv Hospital.

According to Olena Gunko, head of the IT department at Lviv City Council, this is the first time that the knopka system is being implemented in Lviv’s medical institutions.

“One of the priorities of the city’s digitalization is the development of smart innovative services in various spheres of life, including healthcare. Since the First Territorial Medical Association includes many institutions, we decided to start implementing the knopka startup here. We hope that it will increase the efficiency of these institutions and enable them to provide fast and high-quality medical care to those who need it,” said Olena Gunko.

According to the developers, in all the hospitals where knopka operates, doctors report easier work and reduced anxiety in the workplace.
