In Lviv, a deterioration in weather conditions is expected by the end of 15 July: according to the Lviv Regional Hydrometeorological Centre, thunderstorms, squally winds of 15–20 m/s and possible hail are forecast across the city. Lviv City Council is urging residents to take the storm warning into account and exercise caution.
The city Department for Civil Protection and Territorial Defence reminds residents of the basic safety rules during a thunderstorm. If bad weather catches you at home, it is recommended to close windows and doors and disconnect all appliances, including your phone, from the mains to reduce the risk of a lightning strike.
When outdoors, people are advised not to shelter under trees, as they attract lightning and can also break in strong gusts of wind. It is worth keeping away from metal fences, advertising structures and power line poles, and not opening umbrellas with metal components, as they also attract electrical discharges.
In the event of dangerous or emergency situations, residents are asked to contact the city’s “Hotline” on the short number 15-80. Requests can also be submitted via the official online services of the “1580 Hotline”.
