The Radiation Therapy Center was opened at the Lviv City Hospital: oncology patients will be able to receive the entire cycle of treatment at the hospital

The modern Center for radiation treatment of patients with cancer began to operate on the basis of the hospital of Saint Panteleimon, located on the street. Mykolaychuk in Lviv. Now cancer patients will be able to receive the entire cycle of treatment within one hospital.

They were able to launch a new medical direction thanks to the Halcyon linear accelerator purchased this year. This device allows you to control the radiation dose as precisely as possible, which, accordingly, minimizes the impact of the rays on adjacent tissues. At least 30 patients will be able to receive care here every day.

The radiation therapy center occupies two floors – minus the first and first and is designed only for outpatients. “The linear accelerator is located underground, in a bunker. The room is arranged in such a way that X-rays do not irradiate people around. The patient comes, receives a service. Then, depending on the state of health, he goes either home or to a hospital.

And on the first floor there are rooms where doctors provide consultations to cancer patients and prescribe treatment,” said Oleg Samchuk, general director of the First Medical Association of Lviv.

He emphasized that until today, diagnostics, oncology surgery and chemotherapy were available for cancer patients at the St. Panteleimon Hospital. Since there was no linear accelerator in the hospital, the patients had to undergo radiation therapy in the Lviv or Volyn regional oncology centers.

“Now they will receive all services in a closed cycle in one medical institution. Doctors will be able to monitor their condition from the beginning to the end of treatment. These are difficult patients, they have many concomitant diseases and must be under the strict control of doctors,” Oleg Samchuk said.

Marta Matyushko, head of the health care department of the LMR, noted that this Center is extremely important not only for the residents of the Lviv community, but for all Ukrainians. “This will make it possible to significantly bring such an important service closer to the population,” she said.

Oleg Samchuk added that the repair of the premises and the purchase of equipment were carried out at the expense of the city and the First Medical Association of Lviv.

Soon, with the assistance of the Ministry of Health, the Radiotherapy Center will receive another linear accelerator. In addition, a similar center is planned to be opened in another city hospital – St. Luke’s.
