For the first time, donor organs have been harvested at the Yurii Lypa Novoiavorivsk City Hospital, making it possible to save the lives of two patients from other regions of Ukraine. This was reported by the Transplantation Centre of the First Medical Association of Lviv.
The organ harvesting was carried out by a joint team from the Transplantation Centre of the First Medical Association of Lviv and medical staff from Novoiavorivsk Hospital. The doctors expressed their condolences to the donor’s family and thanked them for their decision, which gave other people a chance at life.
During the operation, two donor kidneys were retrieved. One was transplanted into a 33-year-old woman from Zakarpattia, the other into a 41-year-old man from Ivano-Frankivsk region. Both transplants were successful and, according to the doctors, the patients are already returning to their normal lives.
The medical institution notes that this case has become an important milestone in the development of transplantation and once again confirms that organ donation saves the lives of those who need it most.
