In Lviv, the UNBROKEN centre is assisting 26-year-old Vyacheslav Boiko, who lost a leg during the war. The soldier dreams of recovery and becoming a father, as reported by the Lviv City Council.
Vyacheslav lost his limb after spending 35 hours with a tourniquet on the battlefield. He served with the 114th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade in Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, where he sustained the injury. The young soldier recalls that his leg was completely shattered during a combat mission. His comrades could not evacuate him due to intense shelling, which led to the amputation.
For four months now, Vyacheslav has been undergoing rehabilitation at the UNBROKEN centre, receiving assistance from specialists. He actively attends physical therapy sessions, is adapting to the prosthesis, and receives support from his family and comrades. The young defender dreams of expanding his family and having children after recovery.
The UNBROKEN centre, opened in April 2023, provides comprehensive support to those affected by the war. It offers not only prosthetics but also physical, psychological, and psychosocial rehabilitation. In May 2024, a large prosthetics centre was opened with the support of the German government.
Furthermore, UNBROKEN represents Ukraine’s first centre to aid those affected by torture and moral trauma from the war. It offers comfortable conditions without a hospital-like atmosphere, facilitating humane rehabilitation.
