The story of Yana Korol, who cares for ten children in a family-style children’s home, has become an example of how a community can come together to help. The woman had serious vision problems, which affected her ability to work and live daily life. Thanks to the joint efforts of Lviv’s Second Medical Union and the city’s ‘Child Welfare Service’, she underwent an operation that restored her ability to see well.
This act of support was made possible through the collaboration of different institutions. Plastic surgeon Nazar Kalynovych from the Second Medical Union of Lviv team performed the operation, which included the removal of excess skin on the upper eyelids and an endoscopic brow lift. As noted by the surgeon, this not only improved her appearance but also significantly enhanced Yana’s quality of life.
Ms Yana openly expresses her joy at the help she received: “It was my long-held dream, fulfilled thanks to the professionalism of the doctors and the support of the community,” she says.
This case also highlights the importance of the social initiative ‘Mother’s Eyes’, which aims to support vulnerable families in our community. As noted by the head of the union, it is a small gesture of gratitude to a mother who does so much for society.
