
On 17 June, city farewell ceremonies and funerals will be held in Lviv for four servicemen – Volodymyr Kolpak, Oleh Marteklias, Andrii Lyktei and Oleksandr Slobodianiuk, who were killed defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. Residents and visitors are asked to join the mourning events and to refrain from entertainment during this time.
The funeral service for Volodymyr Kolpak, Oleh Marteklias and Andrii Lyktei will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At around 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony is planned on Rynok Square.
Afterwards, Volodymyr Kolpak and Oleh Marteklias will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the Field of Honour No. 87 (Pasichna Street), and Andrii Lyktei at Holosko Cemetery, in Field No. 34-V.
The funeral service for Oleksandr Slobodianiuk will be held separately – at 11:00 in the Church of Peter and Paul in the Riasne neighbourhood (Lukasevycha Street). The serviceman will be buried at the Riasne Cemetery, in the military section.
Volodymyr Kolpak (16.04.1989 — 22.10.2024) was born in the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk region. He studied at Bakhmut Secondary School I–III degrees No. 24 with in-depth study of individual subjects, and later at the Educational and Scientific Vocational and Pedagogical Institute of the Ukrainian Engineering and Pedagogical Academy in Bakhmut.
He worked at Zavod Kolorovykh Metaliv LLC. His family remember him as kind, caring, reliable and loving; he was fond of sport, especially wrestling, was interested in computer technology and loved animals.
In 2024, he joined Ukraine's defence forces, fighting in the Luhansk sector as part of the 90th Separate Airmobile Battalion named after Hero of Ukraine Senior Lieutenant Ivan Zubkov of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Volodymyr Kolpak is survived by his mother, brother and extended family.
Oleh Marteklias (03.06.1976 — 12.05.2025) was a native of Lviv. He graduated from Secondary School I–III degrees No. 49 in Lviv, and later qualified as an electric and gas welder at the state vocational institution "Lviv Higher Vocational Polytechnic School". He completed compulsory military service.
He worked as an electric and gas welder at private enterprises. According to his family, he was hardworking, kind, sincere, calm and sensitive, loved his job and was conscientious in his work, was interested in cookery and was always ready to support others.
In 2025, he took up arms to defend Ukraine from the full-scale aggression, serving in the Donetsk sector as part of the 100th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Oleh Marteklias is survived by his aunt and her family, friends and comrades-in-arms.
Andrii Lyktei (11.12.1986 — 10.06.2026) was a native of Lviv. He studied at Uzhhorod Primary School No. 1 of Uzhhorod City Council, Zakarpattia region. He continued his education at the Uzhhorod branch of the Higher Private Educational Institution "Lviv Medical Vocational College "Monada"" and at the Zakarpattia Educational and Scientific Institute of the West Ukrainian National University.
He worked as a dental technician at private enterprises. His relatives note that he was kind, responsible, calm and positive, had a creative approach to life and a good sense of humour, always helped others, and loved animals, reading, drawing and spending time in nature.
He took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation. In 2024, he once again took up the defence of Ukraine, serving in the North Slobozhanskyi sector as part of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Andrii Lyktei is survived by his daughter, sister, mother, nephews, friends and comrades-in-arms.
Oleksandr Slobodianiuk (01.05.1977 — 10.06.2026) was born in the village of Podilske, Khmelnytskyi region. He studied at Secondary School No. 92 in Lviv, and later qualified as an electric and gas welder at Higher Vocational School No. 63 in Lviv. He completed compulsory military service.
He worked in the field of industrial mountaineering at private enterprises. His family describe him as kind, sensitive, sociable and outgoing, marked by his optimism, energy and care for his loved ones. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and spending time in nature.
In 2023, he joined the defence forces, defending Ukraine in the Donetsk sector as part of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Oleksandr Slobodianiuk is survived by his wife, son, parents, brother and extended family.
