Farewells to be held in Lviv on 5 June for Pavlo Kyrylych, Ihor Koval and Ostap Rudnyk

On 5 June in Lviv, the city will hold a farewell ceremony for servicemen Pavlo Kyrylych, Ihor Koval and Ostap Rudnyk, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. Residents and visitors to the city are being urged to join the farewell and to refrain from entertainment and celebrations at this time.

The farewell to Pavlo Kyrylych will begin at 09:30 at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ of the UGCC at 319 Horodotska Street. The funeral service for the soldiers will take place at 11:00 in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, after which, at approximately 11:30, a city-wide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.

Pavlo Kyrylych and Ostap Rudnyk will be laid to rest at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the Field of Honourable Burials No. 87 on Pasichna Street. Ihor Koval will be laid to rest at Holosko Cemetery, in Field 34-V.

Ostap Rudnyk

Ostap Rudnyk (18.05.1988 — 22.07.2024) was a Lviv native. He studied at Secondary School No. 54 in Lviv and later at the Lviv State University of Internal Affairs. He worked in the production of metal-plastic structures at a private enterprise.

From an early age he was passionate about football. According to his family, he was sociable, kind and sincere, always ready to help. After the start of the full-scale invasion, he stepped forward to defend Ukraine, fighting in the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk sectors as part of the 151st Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded a brigade commander's decoration – the medal “Glory and Honour”. He is survived by his mother, aunt, nephew and extended family.

Ihor Koval

Ihor Koval (17.12.1987 — 21.05.2026) was a Lviv native. He studied at Lyceum No. 17 of the Lviv City Council, as well as at the Communal Institution of the Lviv Regional Council “Lviv Professional Sports College”. He worked as a baker at private enterprises.

According to his family, Ihor was kind, responsible, courageous and brave, good-natured and sociable. He loved music, singing, fishing and cooking, and had a special fondness for animals. He was keen on water polo, took part in competitions and won prizes. In 2025 he joined the country's defenders, serving in the Zaporizhzhia sector as part of the 210th Separate Assault Regiment of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is survived by his wife, sister, grandmother, uncle, aunt and extended family.

Pavlo Kyrylych

Pavlo Kyrylych (12.07.1971 — 02.06.2026) was born in the village of Tysovytsia in Lviv region. He studied at the branch of the Support Institution of General Secondary Education I–III degrees named after Mykhailo Verbytskyi in the village of Strilky – the “Tysovytsia Gymnasium”, and later gained a vocational qualification at a vocational school. He completed compulsory military service.

He worked as a baker at a private enterprise, and also as a forklift driver at LLC “Transportna kompaniia SAT”. His family remember him as sociable, outgoing, responsible, kind and sincere, with a positive outlook, joie de vivre, thoughtfulness and a good sense of humour. He was keen on sport, particularly football, and loved mushroom picking and spending time in nature.

After the start of the full-scale invasion, he stepped forward to defend Ukraine. He served in the Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk sectors as part of the 12th Separate Army Aviation Brigade named after General-Cornet Viktor Pavlenko of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded the medal “War Veteran”. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, brothers and sisters with their families, extended family, neighbours, friends and comrades-in-arms.
