Lviv to bid farewell to defender Andriy Hentosh

On Monday, 21 June, a farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for serviceman Andriy Hentosh, who gave his life defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. Lviv City Hall has called on residents and visitors to join the ceremony and to refrain from entertainment and celebrations at this time.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of Sts Peter and Paul the Apostles. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. After this, the warrior will be laid to rest at Holosko Cemetery, in section No. 34-V.

Andriy Hentosh was born on 8 December 1976 and died on 15 June 2026. He was a native of Lviv. He studied at Secondary Comprehensive School No. 73 and later at the State Vocational Education Institution “Interregional Higher Vocational School of Motor Transport and Construction”.

In civilian life he worked as a driver-forwarder for private companies. His family remember him as a kind, honest and fair person, a loving husband and caring father, distinguished by his openness and sincerity in communication. He valued life, tried to live according to his conscience, enjoyed fishing, loved football and was interested in auto mechanics, and was always ready to support his loved ones and help those in need.

With the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Andriy Hentosh voluntarily joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kursk and Northern Slobozhansky directions as part of the 80th Separate Air Assault Galician Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

For his service he was awarded the medal “War Veteran”. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, mother, sister, a large extended family, friends and comrades-in-arms.
