In Sokal, on the facade of Sokal Specialised School No. 4, a memorial plaque was unveiled and consecrated in honour of its alumnus, soldier Ivan Solvar, who was killed defending Ukraine.
Ivan Solvar joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in May 2023. He served in the 3rd Border Detachment named after Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhen Pikus.
In March 2024, the serviceman sustained severe multiple shrapnel wounds as a result of a strike by an enemy FPV drone. After lengthy treatment and rehabilitation, he returned to active military duty.
On 23 November 2025, Ivan Solvar suffered mine-blast injuries incompatible with life. On 26 November, his heart stopped. The defender was 50 years old.
The memorial plaque on the school building is intended to preserve the memory of the fallen soldier for pupils, teachers and all residents of Sokal.
