In the village of Yarushychi in the Stryi community, a memorial plaque in honour of Nazarii Durkot, a soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine who gave his life for Ukraine’s independence, was unveiled and consecrated on the facade of the People’s House.
The ceremony was attended by Mayor Oleh Kanivets. He thanked the Defender’s family for their son and stressed the importance of preserving the memory of fallen soldiers for future generations.
Nazarii Durkot (23.07.2003 – 15.03.2025) was born and lived in Yarushychi. He received his primary education at the local school and from the fifth to the ninth form studied at the Oleksychi Gymnasium. He later graduated from the Stryi VHPU with a qualification in “Electric and gas welder”.
After completing his studies, Nazarii did his compulsory military service and, on the eve of the full-scale invasion, signed a contract with the National Guard of Ukraine. He served diligently, but during the fighting in Donetsk region, his life was cut short by the war. For more than ten months, the serviceman was considered missing in action.
Those present at the unveiling of the plaque honoured the memory of Nazarii Durkot with a minute of silence and a memorial prayer.
