Veterans, both men and women, who have completely or partially lost their sight because of the war, will be able, from 1 July 2026, to receive a one-off cash payment of up to 95,000 hryvnias from the Ukrainian Red Cross.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the procedure for implementing a joint project of the Ukrainian Red Cross and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine. The programme is aimed at supporting those who lost their sight while defending Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
While preparing the programme, the Ukrainian Red Cross team, together with male and female veterans, conducted surveys and consultations to identify the real needs of people after losing their sight. Based on these findings, they drew up a list of adaptive gadgets and household solutions that make everyday life more independent, safe and comfortable. It is this list that has been approved by the Government.
Under the programme, 345 veterans, both men and women, will be able to receive up to 95,000 hryvnias to purchase the necessary adaptive equipment and to adapt their homes to their own needs. The payment will be provided regardless of whether other types of assistance are being received.
The programme offers 26 categories of adaptive gadgets and household solutions to choose from. They are intended to help restore independence in everyday life, improve safety and ease adaptation to new circumstances.
The project is being implemented by the Ukrainian Red Cross in cooperation with state institutions and with the participation of the veterans, both men and women, whose needs formed the basis of the programme, with the support of the FCDO.
