On Wednesday, February 7, Lviv will say goodbye to five soldiers. Oleksandr Shargulenko, Taras Kiz, Denys Sirik, Ruslan Krotov, and Mykola Marchyshyn defended Ukraine from Russian invaders. Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.
The community of Taras Kiz’s native village will have the opportunity to say goodbye to the defender tomorrow, February 7, at 9:00 am in the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Lysynychi.
Then the funeral service for soldiers Oleksandr Shargulenko, Taras Kiz and Denys Sirik will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.
The funeral service for soldiers Ruslan Krotov and Mykola Marchyshyn will begin at 14:00 in the Garrison Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, at 14:00 in the Garrison Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul. Peter and Paul, at 14:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.
The defenders of Ukraine will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographical information about the defenders
Oleksandr Shargulenko (10.03.1988-25.01.2024) A native of the village of Komyshany, Kherson region.
He studied at the Komyshany secondary school №26 of the Kherson City Council. He received vocational education at a local school. He worked at Optymag Research and Production Association LLC in Kherson.
He was fond of fishing and driving. According to his family, Oleksandr was loved by everyone, he was an exceptionally smiling and cheerful person.
After the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, he and his family were forced to leave their home and move to Lviv. In June 2023, he joined the 25th separate airborne Sicheslavska brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend his homeland from the invaders. He performed combat missions in the Kharkiv region.
Oleksandr Shargulenko is survived by his parents, wife and two sons.
Mykola Marchyshyn (12.04.1978-03.02.2024) A resident of Lviv.
He studied at the secondary school №78. After graduation, he served in the military in Kamianets-Podilskyi.
In peacetime, he worked in the field of transportation. He was fond of hunting and fishing. He was an exceptionally kind person, able to find a common language with everyone.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the 65th separate mechanized brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend his homeland from the Russian invaders. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
Mykola Marchyshyn is survived by his mother, wife, two children and two brothers.
Taras Kiz (03.08.1997-27.01.2024) A native of the village of Lysynychi.
He studied at the Lysynychi secondary school and at the municipal institution of the Lviv Regional Council “Vynnyky secondary sanatorium school of I-III degrees”.
After graduation, he entered military service. Upon its completion, he signed a voluntary contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the ranks of the 14th Brigade of Operational Purpose named after Ivan Bohun of the Western Operational and Territorial Association of the National Guard of Ukraine to defend his homeland. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the southern direction.
Taras Kiz is survived by his mother, brothers, sisters and girlfriend.
Denys Sirik (22.04.1999-02.02.2024) A native of Prymorsk, Zaporizhzhia region.
He studied at the secondary school of Partizany (now Novopavlivka). Later he entered the construction school in Berdiansk.
He worked abroad. In his free time, he was fond of shooting and throwing knives, and was active in sports.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Denys Sirik’s family moved to Lviv. In July 2022, he volunteered to defend his homeland. He performed combat missions first as a member of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment, and later – of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhen Pikus of the Eastern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. He defended the state in the eastern part of Ukraine. Despite being wounded, he returned to the front.
For his personal courage, he was awarded numerous departmental awards, including the badge “For Courage in the Protection of the State Border”.
Denys Sirik is survived by his parents and four brothers.
Ruslan Krotov (10.09.1995-25.01.2024) A native of Yenakiyevo, Donetsk region.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he moved to Lviv.
Here, in October 2023, he stood up to defend his homeland from the invaders as part of the 95th separate Polissya Air Assault Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to his comrades-in-arms, he was distinguished by exceptional courage and conscientiousness while performing combat missions to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state.
Ruslan Krotov is survived by his friends and comrades-in-arms.
