Lviv to Honor Fallen Heroes Roman Kolodiy, Taras Sovhan, and Roman Kashuba Tomorrow

On Saturday, January 4, Lviv residents will gather to pay their final respects to Roman Kolodiy, Taras Sovhan, and Roman Kashuba — servicemen who valiantly defended Ukraine against Russian aggression. The Lviv City Council urges residents and visitors to join the farewell ceremony, refrain from entertainment, and show solidarity with the families of the fallen heroes.

Farewell Ceremony Schedule

  • Time and Place: The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul.
  • Ceremony: The citywide farewell ceremony will take place at Rynok Square at 11:30 AM.
  • Burial Site: The defenders will be laid to rest at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Biographies of the Fallen Soldiers

Roman Kolodiy (August 14, 1991 — December 28, 2024)

Born in Lviv, Roman completed his education in the village of Vovkiv and later graduated from Kostenev Gymnasium. He earned a degree in logistics and robotics engineering from Lviv Polytechnic National University.

Roman worked at key defense enterprises, including the Lviv Armored Plant and the State Aviation Repair Plant. A passionate mountain hiker and cook, he also volunteered to assist the elderly. His motto: “Don’t hold back for yourself; tomorrow may never come.”

In May 2024, he joined the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is survived by his parents, a brother with his family, godparents, and two godchildren.


Taras Sovhan (September 3, 1984 — November 22, 2024)

A native of Lviv, Taras trained as an electric welder at the Peremyshliany Vocational Lyceum and worked at the private company “Network Service Lviv.”

He joined the 7th Border Guard Unit of the Carpathian Detachment when Russia’s full-scale invasion began, serving on the eastern front to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty.

He leaves behind a brother, a nephew, a godson, and other family and friends.


Roman Kashuba (November 21, 1980 — December 24, 2024)

Born in Lviv, Roman attended Lyceum No. 93. He worked as a long-haul truck driver and had a deep passion for automobiles.

After the war began, he served in the 18th Sloviansk Brigade of the National Guard, carrying out missions in the Donetsk region.

He is survived by his mother, two children, a sister, and a brother.
