In Lviv, Establishments Are Being Tested for Accessibility for People with Disabilities

In Lviv, an inspection of the accessibility of entrances to establishments, funded by the Icelandic Ramp Up fund, is underway. This is important for ensuring the free movement of people with disabilities. A serviceman in a wheelchair, Nazari, tested the new entrances on Sichovykh Striltsiv Street and Doroshenka Street.

Mykhailo Shevchenko, head of the environment formation department, noted that this year they plan to make up to 200 entrances accessible in different parts of the city. Last year, 57 entrances were realised.

Importantly, as Nazari pointed out, it is crucial that others, particularly those with prosthetics or crutches, have convenient access to premises. For instance, while a café may be easily accessible, other establishments might require further enhancements.

Anastasia Nikulina from the landscape planning department emphasised the need for interior refurbishments, to ensure that efforts on entrance arrangements are not in vain. The work will continue at other locations in the city.

The Ramp Up initiative is being implemented within the framework of agreements between Lviv and its partner city, Reykjavik.
