
Ukrainian modern pentathletes Maksym Kovalchuk from Lviv region and Oleksandr Chernyshov from Kyiv region won silver medals at the U19 Modern Pentathlon World Championships. The competition took place in Madrid, where the athletes competed in the men’s relay.
Before the final event of the programme — the laser run — the Ukrainian duo were in seventh place. In the decisive discipline, Kovalchuk and Chernyshov managed to significantly step up, climbed five positions and finished second, securing silver at the world championships.
This medal is already their second in a row at World Championships among juniors under 19. In 2025 they won the team event at world level.
Maksym Kovalchuk represents the municipal institution of the Lviv Regional Council “KZ LOR Centre of Olympic Training”. His coaches are Vitalii Tarnakin, Oleh Fialkovych and Andrii Kovalchuk.
