The Ukrainian Draughts 64 Championship among youth and young men started in Yavoriv, Lviv Oblast, on 23 November.
This was reported by the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
The competition is attended by 135 draughtsmen aged 6 to 26 from 11 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv.
The national team of Lviv region is represented by draughtsmen from Turka (coached by Bohdan Moskal), Yavoriv (coached by Ihor Kunanets and Yuriy Kunets), and Lviv (coached by Tetiana Osadcha and Oleksandr Ulan).
On the first day, 23 November, there was a lightning game competition, where the participants had 3 minutes per game + 2 seconds per move.
In this programme, Ruslan Monych (Turka) took 3rd place among young people under 26, losing to the champion of Ukraine, master of sports Matvey Kolesnikov from Mykolaiv and the champion of Kyiv, candidate for master of sports Vladislav Fedorchenko.
Andrii Yavorskyi (Turka) won a silver medal among boys under 10.
There was intrigue in the U-10 girls’ tournament, where Turka’s Sofia Lenevych unexpectedly won silver, losing the first place to Polina Lysenko from Kyiv.
In addition, Varvara Osadcha from Lviv won first place among juniors under 19, Maksym Kvasniak from Yavoriv district won third place among cadets under 16, Bozhena Panychok and Anna Nakintsiv from Yavoriv district won second and third places among girls under 8, respectively.
These successful performances allowed the Lviv region team to take second place in the team competition after a strong team from Dnipropetrovs’k region. The third place went to the team from Vinnytsia region.
On 24 November, the classic game competition took place, where the participants had 7 minutes per game + 5 seconds per move.
Among girls under 10, Sofia Lenevich confidently became the champion of Ukraine with a score of 13 points out of 14 possible.
Anna Sas from Vinnytsia region took second place with 10 points, and Polina Lysenko from Kyiv came third.
Andrii Yavorskyi from Turkiv also became the champion of Ukraine among boys under 10, scoring 15 points out of 18 possible and leaving behind Makar Savchenko from Kyiv and Andrii Goldun from Volyn region, who scored 14 points each.
In addition, Varvara Osadcha from Lviv won first place among juniors under 19, Ivan Shcheholskyi from Yavoriv district won third place among boys under 13, and Bozhena Panychok won first place among girls under 8.
These successful performances allowed the national team of Lviv region to once again take second place in the fast game after the strong team from Dnipropetrovs’k region. The third place went to the team from Vinnytsia region.
From 25 to 30 November, the draughtsmen will compete in the classical programme, where each participant will have 40 minutes per game + 10 seconds per move.
