A bunker-museum in memory of Vasyl Kuk to open near the village of Kruhiv

On Sunday, 12 July 2026, near the village of Kruhiv in Zolochiv District, a ceremonial opening will take place of a bunker-museum dedicated to the memory of the last Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, General-Cornet Vasyl Kuk. The event is scheduled to begin at 14:00. The Zolochiv District branch of the All-Ukrainian Brotherhood of the OUN–UPA reported the event.

The organisers emphasise that the newly created bunker-museum is intended to become a place for preserving the historical memory of the Ukrainian liberation movement and honouring Vasyl Kuk, a native of the urban-type settlement of Krasne, who is one of the symbols of Ukrainians’ struggle for independence.

Vasyl Kuk (1913–2007) was born in the settlement of Krasne. From 1950 to 1954 he headed the UPA as Commander-in-Chief, and his name is closely associated with the activities of the Ukrainian underground. After his death, in accordance with his own wishes, he was buried in his native Krasne, where residents still honour the memory of their renowned compatriot.

According to the initiators’ concept, the bunker-museum near Kruhiv has not only historical but also educational significance: it is intended to help the younger generation gain a deeper understanding of the events of the Ukrainian liberation movement and the role played in it by Vasyl Kuk.

Veterans of the liberation movement, service personnel, representatives of the authorities, the public and young people will take part in the opening. The Krasne Settlement Council and the public organisation ‘Krasne Brotherhood of Veterans named after General Roman Shukhevych’ will also join in the joint commemoration of General-Cornet Vasyl Kuk and the Ukrainian fighters for Ukraine’s freedom.
