At the Lviv Historical Museum, preparations are underway to open an exhibition in honor of Taras Shevchenko’s birthday. On Monday, March 9, the exhibition ‘Voice of Freedom: From Taras to the Present’ will start at the premises of the communal institution of the Lviv Regional Council.
The exhibition will combine two important pages in the history of Ukrainian statehood – the activities of the Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius and the history of creating the poem ‘Testament’. The project aims to present Shevchenko not only as a poet but also as a thinker and ideological leader. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore rare editions of ‘Testament’, lifetime publications, as well as artifacts reflecting the image of the Kobzar in cultural heritage.
A separate section is dedicated to the society’s figures – Mykola Kostomarov, Panteleimon Kulish, Mykola Hulak – and their program documents, particularly the ‘Book of the Genesis of the Ukrainian People’ and the Statute, which declared the ideas of Ukraine’s state independence. The exhibition will include over 80 exhibits from the museum’s collection.
Organizers note that the project emphasizes the significance of Taras Shevchenko’s legacy in the context of current challenges for Ukraine. The exhibition will open at 3:00 PM at the following address: Lviv, Pl. Rynok, 24, III floor.
