In September, a youth space and Plast community center ‘Steckevych Villa’ was opened in Lviv, saving the historic building from demolition.
‘Now it is a modern space for children and youth, where they can gather, dream, and create the future,’ said Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi. Restoration was financed by the company ‘Quorum Partners’, and the city will provide the investor with a new land plot. The project has become an important event for all of Ukraine.
Restoration work included the preservation of authentic elements and adaptation of the building for people with disabilities. The area was modernized with sports and playgrounds, an improvised amphitheater, and existing apple trees were preserved. The new center became a place for youth to implement their ideas.
The preserved old stoves and bullet marks from World War II times emphasize the value of historical heritage. The Lviv branch of Plast has about 2800 members. The opening of the Steckevych Villa supports the development of the city’s youth infrastructure.
