Second “Carpathian Shift” for children from frontline communities concludes in Lviv region

The second two-week session of the nationwide project “Carpathian Shift” has concluded in Lviv region. After their holiday in the Carpathians, another 200 children from frontline communities in Kharkiv and Sumy regions are returning home. They are children of service personnel, law enforcement officers, as well as fallen defenders of Ukraine.

The organisers note that over the two weeks they prepared a full programme for the participants: getting to know peers from different regions, trips, sports activities, group discussions and other events designed to support the children and give them the chance to feel safe.

According to the organisers, during their stay the children gradually adapted to the calmer environment: some stopped reacting sharply to loud noises, became more cheerful and more open in communication.

The “Carpathian Shift” programme was initiated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In Lviv region it is being implemented within the framework of the Comprehensive Programme for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport. A total of UAH 8.9 million has been allocated from the regional budget for the sessions.

The organisation of the camp involved the Department of Sport, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration, the Department of Communications and Internal Policy of the Lviv Regional State Administration, as well as the Department for Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Lviv Regional State Administration. They worked together with youth leaders, medical staff, psychologists, volunteers and project partners.

The organisers also expressed their gratitude to the Ukrainian military, who are making it possible for the children to spend part of their summer in a peaceful atmosphere, even though their home communities remain on the front line.
