Lviv has organised solo exhibitions of world-renowned painters from Horodok and Velykyi Lubin. This is the first time such an event has been organised as part of the recently agreed Lviv Agglomeration Development Strategy, which was jointly developed by 18 communities.
This week, representatives of the authorities and residents of several communities that are already part of the potential Lviv Agglomeration Association of Local Governments met in Lviv not to discuss and solve common basic problems. They were united by art. Namely, two exhibitions by one of the most titled painters from Horodok and Velykyi Lubin – Roman Opalynskyi and the spouses Roman and Nadiia Fedina.
“We all form a single cultural space together. Lviv is a common home for the residents of the communities that make up our agglomeration. And it is significant that such an event, which further strengthens the identity of each community, is taking place at the time of the formation of the Lviv Agglomeration Association,” said Liubomyr Zubach, Deputy Mayor of Lviv for Urban Development.
Roman and Nadiia Fedyn work without a brush, using the Flemish technique with a palette knife. You can see their paintings in the Lviv Palace of Arts.
“Our paintings are not about the war, but about what Ukrainians are fighting for and defending today. It is our right to live in Ukraine with Ukrainian traditions, heritage and achievements. Therefore, the focus is on the light that will always prevail over the darkness,” the artists say.
Roman Opalynsky’s exhibition “Under the Wing of an Angel” is being held at the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum. The artist works in the technique of levkas and the author’s technique, which combines artistic processing of wood, glass, metal with painting. The couple creates paintings together “with four hands”
“We have formed a cohort of artists who have long gone beyond the level of their communities. Their names and works are known all over the world. The agglomeration will help develop and present our common cultural heritage, open the doors to a new generation of artists,” says Volodymyr Remenyak, head of the Horodok community, who initiated the exhibition in Lviv for several communities to visit at the same time.
According to Roman Kizyma, Deputy Director of the Department of Urban Agglomeration, the Strategy for the Development of Culture of the Lviv Agglomeration is currently being developed. In the much shorter term, Lviv plans to develop similar events and initiate others, such as community days in Lviv.
