Exhibition of Nil Khasevych in Lviv: UPA Graphics

An exhibition dedicated to Nil Khasevych, a prominent graphic artist of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, has opened in Lviv.

The exhibition “Nil Khasevych – Known and Unknown” presented at the Lviv Historical Museum is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the artist’s birth. The museum presented rare exhibits reflecting the wartime realities and the struggle of Ukrainians. The exhibition showcases over 100 graphic works by Khasevych, presented as copies due to the exceptional value of the originals.

“The figure of Nil Khasevych is an example of how, in extremely difficult and dangerous conditions, one can realize their talent and be highly beneficial to their community, society, and the state, which at that time everyone only dreamed of”, emphasized the museum director Roman Chmelyk.

The head of the Lviv Regional Council’s commission, Sviatoslav Sheremeta, emphasized the importance of popularizing national history. Senior research associate Lyuba Koval noted that Khasevych’s art was dangerous for the occupiers, and his works were widely reproduced abroad. In 1952, Khasevych died in a bunker during a fight with the occupiers.

A separate part of the exhibition is dedicated to the bophons – UPA money that the artist also designed. The museum has prepared a documentary film about Nil Khasevych’s life and work.
