In Lviv, the 211th anniversary of the birth of Mykhailo Verbytsky, the composer of the music for the State Anthem of Ukraine, was celebrated. Participants of the event laid flowers at the monument to the composer, located at the intersection of Generala Chuprynky and Stepan Bandera streets. The monument depicts Verbytsky with an open scroll and a pen in his hand, and flowers with blue and yellow ribbons and candles are placed nearby.
Accompanied by the youth choir, participants laid flowers at the monument, after which all present sang the Anthem of Ukraine and joined in a communal prayer with the clergy. The event was attended by students from school No. 3, university students, representatives of the city and regional authorities, as well as concerned residents of Lviv. From the city community, the Managing Director of the Executive Committee of the Lviv City Council, Yevhen Boyko, participated.
Mykhailo Verbytsky was a Ukrainian composer, choral conductor, priest of the UGCC, and the composer of the state anthem “Ukraine Has Not Yet Perished.” The piece was first performed as an anthem on March 10, 1865, in Przemyśl. In 2015, on the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth, a monument to Verbytsky was unveiled in Lviv, initiated by the “Nadsiania” Society.
