In Sheptytsky, a presentation of five murals took place, created during an international art plein air as part of the «Sheptytsky StreetArt» project.
Six talented artists from various countries, including Lithuania, the United Kingdom, the USA, and Ukraine, created these murals on the walls of Vocational College No. 11 in Sheptytsky. The artists drew inspiration from local traditions, ornaments, and symbols, particularly egg painting, ceramics, and embroidery, embodying them in a modern artistic format. According to the artists, these murals symbolize the resilience of the Ukrainian people and their national identity.
For their creativity, artistic mastery, and active participation in the art plein air, the street artists were acknowledged with letters of appreciation from the head of the Lviv Regional Administration Maxym Kozytskyi. The acknowledgments were presented by the acting head of the Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional Administration, Maryana Kuksa. Besides letters of appreciation, participants also received works of Sokalski ceramics.
«We consciously chose this direction — because the tourism of the future is born where there is history, emotion, and meaning. In the modern world, street art has long ceased to be just street art. It has turned into a powerful tool for forming a new visual identity of cities — with meanings that ‘speak’. And there are more and more examples where, thanks to murals, cities become recognizable tourist destinations», emphasized the director of the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional Administration, Roman Khimyak.
The plein air was realized in cooperation with the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional Administration, Sheptytsky City Council, the Lithuanian Institute of Culture, and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine. «We truly were here like one family. I really want this project not to be a one-time event, and for us to meet here again next year. This is — my sincere wish», noted Thomas Ivanauskas, the cultural affairs attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine.
