18-year-old from Sheptytskyi district stole goods worth ₴10,000 from village shop

In Lviv region, police detained an 18-year-old resident of Sheptytskyi district who broke into a village store and stole merchandise worth a significant amount. He now faces up to 8 years in prison.

According to law enforcement, the incident occurred at around 4 a.m. on January 3. The young man damaged a plastic window to gain access to the store in one of the district’s villages. He then stole items totaling approximately ₴10,000 and fled the scene.

The store owner reported the burglary to the police that same morning. Officers from criminal investigation units, detectives, and other police department employees of Division No. 2 of the Sheptytskyi District Police were involved in solving the case.

Following swift investigative actions, officers identified the suspect’s location and detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Under the procedural guidance of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, investigators launched criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft during martial law). The article provides for a sentence of five to eight years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Authorities are currently deciding on the suspect’s official charges and pre-trial detention measures.
