Combat rifle sold near Lviv shopping centre “Shuvar”: man notified of suspicion

In Lviv, a 41-year-old resident of the city has been notified of suspicion over unlawful actions involving a combat firearm. According to the investigation, the man acquired an AKS-74U rifle without the permit required by law and kept it with the intention of selling it on. This was reported by the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.

Law enforcement officers documented that in June this year, near the Shuvar shopping centre in Lviv, the suspect sold the rifle for more than UAH 40,000. The buyer was acting under the control of law enforcement agencies and, after the purchase, voluntarily handed the weapon over.

According to the expert’s report, the seized AKS-74U is a combat rifled firearm and is fit for shooting. Following the investigative actions carried out, the Lviv resident was notified of suspicion of unlawful acquisition, carrying, possession and sale of a firearm without a permit under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

At the prosecutor’s request, the suspect was remanded in custody with the right to post bail. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the investigative unit of Police Department No. 2 of Lviv District Police Directorate No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region, with operational support provided by the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv Region.

Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
