A Kharkiv resident has been charged with knowingly making a false police report shortly before a terrorist attack in Lviv. This was reported by lviv gp gov ua.
According to the investigation, an 18-year-old resident of Kharkiv was looking for easy earnings on Telegram in January this year and agreed to perform “simple tasks” that involved passing messages to law enforcement for a monetary reward. On the night of February 22, she anonymously called the emergency hotline, claiming to observe a store robbery from a balcony in Lviv. In reality, the woman was in Kharkiv and knew the information was false.
Meanwhile, a resident of Rivne region planted two homemade explosive devices near the specified location. When the first police team arrived, an explosion occurred, and after the second team’s arrival, another explosion followed. The attack resulted in the death of a police officer and injuries to over 20 people. The Kharkiv resident was promised $100 for the false report, but she did not receive the money, and her location was identified the same day.
Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the woman has been charged with knowingly making a false report to a pre-trial investigation body about the commission of a criminal offense (Part 2 of Article 383 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court’s conviction.
