Cybercriminal from Dnipro to Face Trial in Lviv

A cybercriminal will be tried in Lviv for causing a resident of Ternopil damages totaling nearly 400,000 hryvnias.

The accused, a 20-year-old resident of Dnipro previously repeatedly brought to criminal responsibility, faces a punishment of up to eight years in prison. “The perpetrator was identified by the Operative Unit for Combating Cybercrime in the Lviv region in collaboration with investigators from Lviv District Police Department No. 1, under the procedural guidance of the Galician District Prosecutor’s Office”, law enforcement reports.

It was established that in April 2025, the suspect, while in Lviv, gained access to the personal data of a 66-year-old resident of Ternopil and her bank account details. Subsequently, he unlawfully withdrew and appropriated her funds totaling nearly 179,000 hryvnias from various ATMs. Additionally, using the online banking system, he purchased three smartphones and two pairs of headphones in one of the stores with the victim’s money, totaling over 215,000 hryvnias.

Thus, the total damage inflicted on the woman amounts to about 400,000 hryvnias. The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings initiated under part 4 of article 190 (Fraud) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, part 2 of article 361 (Unauthorized interference with the operation of information (automated), electronic communication, information and communication systems, electronic communication networks) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, and part 1 of article 209 (Legalization (laundering) of property obtained by criminal means) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code is complete. The indictment has been sent to court for consideration. The maximum penalty the accused faces is up to eight years of imprisonment.
