A tragic fire occurred in the village of Smerekiv in the Lviv district, claiming the lives of an elderly couple. Today, 14 April, at 12:49, a report was received about smoke emanating from a single-storey brick house.
Fire and rescue units from the town of Zhovkva, as well as local teams from the villages of Kulykiv and Zibolky, arrived at the scene. Upon their arrival, thick black smoke was billowing from the house’s windows, and flames were already raging inside.
The fire covered an area of approximately 30 square metres, with household items ablaze. Heavy smoke hindered the rescuers’ efforts, and there was a threat of the fire spreading. Firefighters worked in breathing and vision protection apparatus.
During the extinguishing of the fire, the bodies of the owners — an elderly couple born in 1938 and 1944 — were discovered in the smoke-filled house. The fire was localised at 13:02 and extinguished by 13:13. Specialists are currently determining the causes and circumstances of the tragedy.
