In Lviv region, a 25-year-old truck driver working for a vegetable farming company has been charged with embezzling a large amount of diesel fuel and falsely reporting threats and violence. The Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv has submitted an indictment against the man to the court.
The investigation revealed that between March 2023 and February 2025, the driver illegally sold nearly 81,000 liters of diesel, causing an estimated UAH 3.5 million in losses to the company.
The fraudulent scheme operated as follows:
- Employees were given fuel cards to refuel company vehicles.
- Instead of using the card solely for his assigned vehicle, the suspect offered fuel at lower prices to other drivers.
- At gas stations, he used the company fuel cards to pay and kept the cash for himself.
After realizing the company leadership might have discovered the fuel embezzlement, the man tried to shift the focus by accusing others. He filed a complaint with the police, claiming that individuals close to the company founder:
- threatened him with a knife;
- demanded a fictitious debt of $50,000;
- assaulted him with an umbrella;
- took his BMW X5;
- and even cut his ear.
However, none of these allegations were confirmed during the investigation.
The man now faces charges of:
- embezzlement of property on a large scale (Part 5, Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);
- knowingly false report of a crime (Part 2, Article 383);
- misleading the court or another authorized body (Part 2, Article 384).
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by Lviv District Police Department No. 1.
