Resident of Stryi district sentenced to 6 years for bank card theft and cannabis dealing

A 41-year-old resident of Stryi district has been sentenced to 6 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property for stealing an acquaintance’s bank card and dealing in narcotic drugs. This was reported by the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office.

In September 2025, the man was in his acquaintance’s flat, where he took a bank card from a bedside table in one of the rooms without the owner’s knowledge. He then made contactless payments in shops and, knowing the PIN code, withdrew cash from a cash machine. The total amount of material damage caused to the victim exceeded 5,000 UAH.

It was also established that at the beginning of 2026 the convicted man repeatedly unlawfully bought and kept cannabis at his home with the intention of further sale. Two episodes were documented in which he sold almost 10 g of this drug for 3,000 UAH directly from his house in one of the villages of Stryi district.

During a warrant-backed search at the man’s place of residence, law enforcement officers discovered and seized cannabis. He was charged with the covert appropriation of another person’s property committed under martial law, the unlawful acquisition and possession with intent to supply and unlawful supply of narcotic drugs, committed repeatedly, as well as the theft of an official document for gain (Part 4 of Article 185, Parts 1 and 2 of Article 307, Part 1 of Article 357 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Until the verdict enters into legal force, the convicted man will remain in custody. The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region. The court verdict will enter into legal force after the expiry of the time limit for lodging an appeal.
