Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the deputy mayor and head of the accounting department of a city council in the Lviv region were exposed and charged with receiving illegal benefits (Article 368 Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Details of the Corruption Scheme
Investigators revealed that the officials demanded 7% of the total contract amount from a private entrepreneur in exchange for signing agreements for supplying computer and office equipment to the city council.
In return for the bribes, the officials promised:
- No artificial obstacles during the acceptance and delivery of goods.
- Prompt payment for goods based on invoices.
The deputy mayor personally met with the entrepreneur to present the terms and enlisted the head of the accounting department to handle the bribe collection.
Bribes and Arrest
The officials were caught red-handed receiving a bribe of 17,000 UAH. It was documented that they managed to receive a total of 25,000 UAH through this scheme.
Preventive Measures
The court has imposed pre-trial detention on the suspects, with the option of bail.
Investigation
The investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv Region, with operational support from the Strategic Investigations Department.
