In Lviv region, doctors to stand trial for fictitious diagnosis

In the Lviv region, four doctors are accused of assigning a fictitious diagnosis to a patient to facilitate guardianship arrangements.

This diagnosis could have served as a basis to avoid mobilization to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the person taking care of the woman. Law enforcement determined that a family doctor and a psychiatrist from a hospital in the Zolochiv district recorded a fictitious diagnosis in the medical card of an 88-year-old patient. The woman did not seek medical help and therefore did not undergo medical examinations.

Based on this diagnosis, the psychiatrist, along with two other members of the medical-consultative commission, issued forged documents. These included a medical opinion and a conclusion about cognitive impairments, allegedly indicating the patient required care.

The individuals involved were exposed by investigators from Police Department No. 1 of the Zolochiv District Police, in collaboration with operatives from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region. The pre-trial investigation is complete, and the indictments have been submitted to the court.

The doctors are charged with criminal offenses, including official forgery and unauthorized actions with information. The maximum punishment is imprisonment for up to three years with disqualification from holding certain positions.
