Five Pedestrians Injured in Traffic Accidents in Lviv Region

In the Lviv region, five pedestrians, including two schoolgirls, were injured in vehicle accidents over the past day.

Lviv police urge pedestrians to strictly adhere to traffic rules, be attentive and cautious, cross only at pedestrian crossings and on green lights. During dark times and in low visibility conditions, it is recommended to use reflective elements. Drivers are urged not to exceed the allowed speed, avoid risky maneuvers, and be vigilant when approaching intersections and pedestrian crossings.

On December 2, around 1:20 PM, on Maksymovycha Street in Lviv, the driver of a Land Rover Range Rover, a 54-year-old resident of Lviv, hit two girls from Lviv aged nine and ten. As a result of the accident, the schoolgirls sustained physical injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Additionally, around 1:50 PM, on Patona Street in Lviv, the driver of a Volkswagen Passat, a 79-year-old resident of the Lviv district, struck two men from Lviv aged 45 and 66. As a result of the accident, the pedestrians sustained physical injuries and were taken to a medical facility.

Another traffic accident occurred around 5:10 PM on Vokzalna Street in Stryi. Preliminary investigations by law enforcement officers indicate that the driver of an Opel Corsa, a 32-year-old resident of the Stryi district, hit a 72-year-old local woman. As a result of the accident, the elderly woman sustained physical injuries and was hospitalized.

Criminal proceedings have been opened by investigators for these incidents under part 1 of article 286 (Violation of Traffic Safety Rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by the article’s sanction is up to three years of restricted freedom with the deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.

Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the events.

A comprehensive set of preventive measures is underway in the Lviv region to monitor road safety with the aim of reducing the number of traffic accidents, their prevention, and preclusion. To this end, the number of response teams of the patrol police has been increased, and community police officers have been involved in conducting measures at the most accident-prone road sections and locations with traffic accidents, particularly those with fatalities and injuries.
