A scheme for reselling vehicles imported as humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces has been uncovered in the Lviv region.
According to the investigation, a 35-year-old resident of Cherkasy organized the import of used cars from the European Union, particularly from Lithuania and Poland. To avoid customs payments, the vehicles were imported as humanitarian aid for the Armed Forces, using the details of charitable organizations. Drivers from various regions of Ukraine were involved in transporting the vehicles across the border.
The head of one of the charitable foundations in the Lviv region, a 59-year-old resident of Sheptytskyi district, also imported cars, knowing they would not reach the military. The smuggled vehicles were stored at a car park in Uman, where potential buyers could inspect them. The organizer handled the sale despite a ban on selling in the technical passports.
If the cars could not be sold due to their condition, they were disassembled for parts. The illegal activity was halted after a car was sold for 9,500 USD. During searches, four KIA vehicles, nearly 3 million UAH, and other evidence were seized. The value of the seized cars exceeds 1.3 million UAH. Investigative actions continue to identify all involved persons.
