The Court of Appeal has upheld the sentence imposed on a 36-year-old Lviv resident convicted of a violent robbery in Lviv’s Frankivskyi district. Earlier, the Frankivskyi District Court sentenced him to 8 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of all his property.
As established in court, the incident took place in October 2022 in the evening at a public transport stop in the city’s Frankivskyi district. A verbal dispute arose between the man and an unknown woman, during which the attacker struck the victim several times with his hands and feet on her body.
From the blows, the woman fell onto the pavement and lost consciousness. Taking advantage of her helpless state, the man snatched her bag containing money and documents and fled. Passers-by found the victim and called medics and law enforcement officers.
The very next day, police officers established the assailant’s whereabouts and detained him. The amount of material damage caused was almost UAH 12,500. The man’s actions were classified under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery).
The defence appealed the verdict of the court of first instance, insisting on a reduction of the sentence. However, according to the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the Court of Appeal agreed with the arguments of the prosecution and left the verdict unchanged.
