
In Lviv region, a 54-year-old resident of Sheptytskyi district is to stand trial, accused of cruelty to an animal. He faces a sentence of up to eight years in prison.
According to the pre-trial investigation, on 15 June the dog owner’s neighbour hanged the animal from a tree, wrapping a rope around its neck, as a result of which the dog died.
Criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 3 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Cruel treatment of animals”. The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been submitted to the court for consideration.
The sanction under this article provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
The perpetrator was identified by community police officers, investigators, criminal police operatives and forensic specialists from Police Station No. 2 of the Sheptytskyi District Police Department, under the procedural supervision of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
