Near Sokilnyky Forest, law enforcement officers detained a 23-year-old Lviv resident suspected of trafficking psychotropic substances. According to the investigation, at the end of September this year the man purchased a large consignment of prohibited substances for further sale via “drops” on the territory of Lviv.
After collecting the parcel with the wraps, the detainee was heading to his place of residence in the area of Naukova Street in Lviv. Pursuant to Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, he was stopped and searched.
During the search, officers seized from the man, in particular, 75 drops, zip-lock bags with a suspected narcotic substance and another bag containing a psychotropic substance. An expert examination established that one of the parcels contained the equivalent of more than 81 g of mephedrone in terms of the “pure” substance, which is classified as an especially dangerous psychotropic substance. The other parcels have been sent for further examination to determine their contents.
Under the procedural guidance of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv, the detainee has been notified of suspicion of the unlawful acquisition and storage with intent to distribute an especially dangerous psychotropic substance in an especially large quantity under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Lviv District Police Department No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region, and investigators are identifying other possible participants in the unlawful activity.
In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
