In the woodland park in Levandivka in Lviv, according to the investigation, a car driver ran over a police officer while attempting to flee from law enforcement. This was reported by the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.
The investigation established that late in the evening of 23 May a 33-year-old Lviv resident was in the woodland park, where, according to law enforcement officers, he was behaving suspiciously – walking with a torch and looking for something in the grass. During an ID check he produced his passport, but on hearing a request to show his military registration document, he ran to a car parked nearby.
While attempting to drive out of the park, the driver, according to the investigation, knocked down a police officer who was standing in front of the car and trying to stop him. The man drove away from the scene despite warning shots fired by law enforcement officers.
In less than 24 hours the fugitive was tracked down. He turned out to be a dentist at one of Lviv’s polyclinics. As a result of being hit, the police officer sustained injuries to his arm and abdomen.
Under the procedural guidance of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv, the driver has been notified that he is suspected of using violence against a law enforcement officer under Part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Police Department No. 1 of Lviv District Police Directorate No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
The Prosecutor’s Office reminds the public that, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
