In Lviv, the head accountant of a municipal hospital is to stand trial, accused of official negligence that allegedly caused losses to the medical institution totalling more than 665,000 hryvnias. The indictment has been submitted to court under the procedural guidance of the Halych District Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, in May 2019 one of Lviv’s municipal hospitals carried out a procurement procedure for equipment. A commercial enterprise won the tender, and a contract was concluded with it for the supply, in particular, of a radiographic system and a C-arm mobile system.
A few months after the contract was signed, the foreign currency exchange rate in Ukraine changed. Before paying for the supplied equipment, the head accountant, according to the investigation, did not check the current exchange rate and did not recalculate the payment amount. This, investigators believe, led to the purchase of the goods at an inflated price and caused the hospital losses totalling more than 665,000 hryvnias.
The suspect was exposed by investigators of Lviv District Police Department No.1 together with operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Lviv Region, under the procedural guidance of the Halych District Prosecutor’s Office. The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (official negligence) has been completed.
Under the charges brought, the woman faces a sentence of imprisonment for a term of two to five years, with disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years, and a fine ranging from two hundred and fifty to seven hundred and fifty tax-free minimum incomes of citizens, or without such a fine.
