Repeat offender detained in Lviv over 600,000 UAH house theft

In Lviv, a 30-year-old native of Odesa region has been notified of suspicion after being detained for a theft from a private house on Sarnenska Street. According to the investigation, the damage caused to the victims amounts to about 600,000 UAH. This was reported under the procedural guidance of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.

The investigation established that at the end of July this year, a man previously convicted of property offences chose a private household on Sarnenska Street in Lviv. Having made sure in the middle of the day that the owners were not at home, he entered the house through the garage, having first broken the door.

In the house, according to the investigation, the perpetrator stole family valuables, including diamond rings and an antique ring with a ruby. Also stolen were commemorative and silver NBU coins, watches, hunting knives, perfumes, as well as cash in national and foreign currency: 1,400 US dollars and 200 euros.

The man has been notified of suspicion of the covert theft of another’s property combined with unlawful entry into a dwelling, committed on a large scale under martial law (Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Law enforcement officers promptly established his whereabouts and detained him; at present, a decision is being made on the choice of a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of Lviv District Police Department No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region. In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proved in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
