Man with grenade detained in Radekhiv, investigation under way

In the town of Radekhiv, police officers detained a 50-year-old local resident who was found to have an object resembling a grenade in his bag. A pre-trial investigation has been launched in connection with this, and law enforcement officers are establishing the origin of the munition.

The incident occurred on 15 August during a routine patrol of the service area. A response unit of the patrol police sector of Police Station No.1 of the Sheptytskyi District Police Department stopped the driver of an electric scooter to check his documents and noticed a suspicious object in his small bag.

An investigative team from the territorial police unit and explosive ordnance disposal specialists of the Lviv Region Police arrived at the scene. The munition was seized and sent for expert examination.

The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office, he has been served with a notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives. The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers are establishing the origin of the grenade. The court is expected to decide on a preventive measure for the suspect in the near future.
