In the village of Nakonechne Pershe in Yavoriv district, a fatal road traffic collision involving a bus and a bicycle occurred. The incident was reported by the Yavoriv District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
The crash happened on 17 October at around 18:20. According to preliminary information from law enforcement officers, there was a collision between an Automet Apollo bus, driven by a 37-year-old resident of Yavoriv district, and a bicycle ridden by a 77-year-old local resident.
As a result of the collision, the elderly cyclist sustained bodily injuries and was taken to hospital. Despite receiving medical assistance, the man died in hospital.
Investigators from the department for the investigation of transport-related offences of the Lviv region police have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road safety rules or the operation of transport by persons driving vehicles). The article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with a possible driving ban for up to three years or without such a ban.
Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident and carrying out the necessary investigative actions.
