Dog Shot Dead in Stare Selo, Lviv Region: Police Search for the Shooter

Police in Lviv region are investigating a cruel incident in the village of Stare Selo, where an unknown individual fatally shot a dog.

Authorities are asking the public to share any information that could help identify and locate the person responsible. Tips can be submitted via the 102 emergency line or at any local police station.

The incident occurred on February 2 around 8:00 PM. A 24-year-old resident of the village reported to police that her dog had been killed by gunfire.

Investigators, criminal police operatives, and forensic experts from Police Department No. 3 of Lviv District Police Department No. 2 responded to the scene. Preliminary findings suggest the animal was shot, possibly with hunting ammunition, as metallic fragments resembling buckshot were discovered in the dog’s spine. The dog succumbed to its injuries.

The dog’s body has been sent for veterinary forensic examination to determine exact details of the incident.

Under the procedural guidance of the Pustomyty District Prosecutor’s Office, a criminal case has been opened under Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — cruelty to animals. This offense carries a penalty of one to three years of restricted freedom or two to three years of imprisonment, along with mandatory confiscation of the animal.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Police are conducting a range of operational and investigative measures to identify and locate the offender.
